Development of a comprehensive database for building energy performance benchmarking in the ASEAN region
Objectives
Before a building owner takes actions to retrofit his/her building for enhanced energy efficiency, he/she must be totally convinced that his/her building is low in performance with respect to a similar cohort of buildings operating under similar conditions. An ESCOs (Energy Services Company) will not do as it may not be reliable. The ESCO may be bias.
This background shows that an objective, reliable and independent data source is required for objective and accurate benchmarking. This benchmarking should be relevant and can give peer comparison. Data from foreign cities are not acceptable.
Hence, the objective of this project is to establish a comprehensive, reliable and accurate database for benchmarking that will solve the above prevalent situation. This project will develop:
-
An independent, reliable internet based energy benchmarking system accessible by all users;
-
To document the methodology of the development to serve as guide for extension to other parts of ASEAN;
-
To develop a building energy performance classification system from the benchmarking, paving the way for building energy labeling.
